Miniature LED light source on a wire

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are now common in lighting and signalling solutions, where they have replaced standard light bulbs. Compared to the latter, LEDs consume much less energy, are far more durable, and are available in a wide variety of size variants, with diverse accessories. Thanks to that, they can be used to create solutions which are not only efficient, but can also have unconventional shapes and sizes (especially miniature ones).

LEDs can be placed in traditional panel controls which are used, e.g., in control cabinets. They can also become neatly built-in components of consumer devices, in which they indicate, for example, whether a particular feature is turned on or not. It is worth mentioning here that special optical fibres are used in space-saving solutions. Thanks to them, the light emitted by the LED placed, for example, on a PCB is visible on the signal panel.

Optosupply offers a new solution: miniature LEDs (1.0x0.4x0.4 mm) placed at the end of a thin wire (Ø 0.25 mm) with the length of approx. 300 mm. The wire is terminated with a goldpin plug (pin pitch: 2.54 mm), which brings with it plenty of new possibilities and facilitates modular design of the devices. Such compact modules are a perfect fit for small devices, where limited space makes it difficult or even impossible to use optical fibres. The fact that the LED is on the wire allows means that it can be used as an indicator on mobile elements, too. Some possible applications include: model making (ex. plane lights, railway signs or street lights), toys, but also backlighting of buttons, knobs or manipulators in consumer/professional/industrial devices.

Small size, easy application, and a wide range of colours mean that you can now implement those of your ideas that would be difficult to realise with the use of other lighting elements.
