SMA and SMB coaxial connectors from Amphenol RF

The TME catalogue has been expanded to include a new range of SMA and SMB connectors. The products come from the portfolio of Amphenol RF, a well-known and respected supplier of plugs, sockets and coaxial cables. These solutions are commonly used in radio communication modules, primarily network and IoT devices. They have a typical 50 Ω impedance and are available in a wide variety of formats.

The SMA and SMB models that are available from the TME catalogue include PCB-mounted sockets (through-hole and surface mount, THT and SMD), as well as edge, cable (crimp) or panel-mounted connectors. They can have either straight or right-angled orientation. The wide thermal tolerance of the products is also noteworthy, as they are suitable for operating temperatures from -65°C to 165°C (maximum).

SMA models

SMA connectors are mated using threads, which ensures their high mechanical durability even in the presence of intense vibration. The protected centre contact and insulator increase the axial force and torque used for connection. Owing to that, selected Amphenol RF products are IP68 rated, i.e. they are fully waterproof. The thick gold plating, covering the majority of the models in the range, improves the electrical performance of the plugs and sockets while ensuring a service life of 500 mating cycles and also high corrosion resistance. The products are suitable for operation with signals from DC to 34 GHz.

SMB models

When it comes to the SMB connectors, they are snap-on mated, so they are really easy to install. They conduct signals at frequencies up to 4 GHz. The attenuation coefficient for this group does not exceed 0.3 dB. What is important is that SMB products are smaller than SMA models, and as such they make it easier to miniaturise devices.
