ESD products ensure proper protection from electrostatic discharge, which helps avoid damage to elements that are sensitive to electrostatic energy. They are particularly recommended to people who work with electronics and in places where there is a hazard of static electricity, e.g. where semiconductor circuits are manufactured, and various components are packed and stored. ESD products are also used at service technicians’ workstations.
Wrist straps and heel grounders are the most popular pieces of ESD personal protective equipment. They help dissipate the charge which accumulated on clothes or a body by grounding it and equalising potentials. Obviously, a specialist brand such as Antistat offers this kind of products. They are available in two variants: disposable and reusable.
It is important that both a wrist strap and a heel grounder should tightly adhere to a user’s body, as only then they ensure proper grounding. That’s also why wrist band diameters are adjustable. The connection to the grounding is made by means of 4 mm or 10 mm clamps (located at the band’s side) through a wire (in the form of a coiled cord for easier movement) and a terminal at a grounding point (a crocodile clip, a banana plug etc.). Both products are made of anti-allergic materials, as they have direct contact with the skin.
ESD heel grounders are attached to shoes with a hook-and-loop fastener, clip or (in the case of disposable versions) pressure-sensitive adhesive polyester tape. Reusable models are attached to the heel (touching it directly), and then they are secured on the top of a foot through an adjustable band (that way, the product will be suitable for every type of footwear).
Disposable variants are sold in bigger sets of 100 pieces.
