Modern local area networks (LAN) require the use of special cabling manufactured in compliance with international standards. Only thanks to that the cables are able to transmit data at the nominal speed offered by state-of-the-art routers and LAN adapters. Cables are divided into a few categories. Currently, CAT 8.2 is the highest generation – for use in IT centres, server rooms etc. – and these are the exact applications for which DIGITUS DK-1843 series products are dedicated. Inside each cable (under the foamed polyethylene sheath and tinned copper wire braid overall shielding) twisted pairs of conductors are placed – each pair has its own aluminum-covered polyester film (AL-PET) shielding. Thanks to such a design, these cables are distinguished by good mechanical durability, and – most importantly – by high immunity to external and internal (cross-talk) noise. It should be noted here that CAT 8.2 cables are intended to work at distances up to 36m (transmission frequency up to 2000MHz) – which is why they are not recommended for consumer or office installations. Instead, category 7 cabling should be used for these purposes – in the case of DIGITUS, this will be the DK-1743 series, which make 10Gb/s possible (for cable length up to 100m). In both cases, the outer insulation is made of LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) - i.e. halogen-free material which is distinguished by low smoke emission when in contact with fire.
The third group of cables presented here comprises DK-TP series cables from categories 5e and 6 (transfer up to 100Mb/s and in the GbE standard). They feature high-quality PE insulation, which is resistant to UV and moisture. The DK-TP cables are also intended for underground Ethernet installations, because they can be laid directly in the ground. The series has one additional advantage, namely its high thermal tolerance, thanks to which these cables are suitable for temperatures from -40°C to 70°C.
