For several years, we have been steadily expanding the range of supercapacitors from Eaton Electronics available in the TME catalogue. The technology applied in these devices is continually evolving, so new solutions, such as aerogel-based components, are constantly being introduced to the market.
The TME offer currently includes Eaton supercapacitors with capacitances from 100 mF to 3000 F and voltages from 2.5 V...5.5 V. They are available as “classic” models intended for through-hole mounting (THT wires), as well as with SNAP-IN leads.
Naturally, the wide range of parameters translates into an array of applications. Small components are used, for example, as sources of backup power for real-time clocks (RTCs), in communication modules for wireless meters or for office and network devices. Components with capacitances of tens and hundreds of farads are capable of storing and supplying energy sufficient for many specialist applications. They are used in motor starters (e.g. in wind turbines), recuperative brakes, industrial actuator drivers, UPS, backup systems in hybrid and renewable energy installations, etc. The very low impedance (ESR) combined with the unrivalled energy density provide many different possibilities.
It should be noted at this point that Eaton Electronics also offers supercapacitor modules (batteries), where the components have been connected in series to accommodate higher charge/discharge voltages (from 16.2 to 51.3 V DC). The video attached shows one such module ‒ the XLR-16 model.
