In modern electronics, access to mass storage has become virtually indispensable. Meanwhile, the continuous drive towards miniaturisation requires the use of ever-smaller data carriers. This trend has slowed down over the last decade alongside the proliferation of microSD memory cards. The MicroSD standard has made its way into most mobile devices: from smartphones to cameras to single-board computers. It is also widely applied in industrial and professional devices, such as data loggers or machine controllers. Reputable manufacturers offer microSD devices whose capacity and transfer rate make it possible for the card to be used as an SSD (e.g. in laptops).
At the same time, it must be borne in mind that all the applications mentioned above involve the need for high-quality sockets designed for multiple (and, preferably, convenient) insertions and removals of an SD card. The contacts of such a socket must each time guarantee that the connection conforms to the specification of the standard for the optimum quality of communication between the memory chip and the control unit. Of course, the TME range of products comprises a choice of connectors for microSD cards. Today, we would like to draw your attention to a new addition to this product category: push-push sockets supplied by Global Connector Technology (GCT).
The MEM microSD connector series comprises products distinguished by their very low profile. The smallest product in this group, i.e. the MEM2080 socket, is just 1.28 mm high. Moreover, its mounting footprint is also very small: 183.22 mm2. Such dimensions are a tremendous advantage, especially in the case of ultra-compact devices. The push-push mechanism ensures that the card is well seated in the slot, while also making it easy to remove. Another highlight of the MEM connectors is their high durability (5,000 cycles) and their wide operating temperature range (from -25°C to 85°C). In addition, the sockets included in this series are equipped with a contact for detecting the card presence. The MEM products can be applied in a variety of devices: drones, digital cameras, security cameras, industrial circuits etc.
