Routing mains power to a work site can be tricky, especially on a farm, outdoors or in a machinery park. The site may be a long distance from the nearest mains socket, require more than one electrical connection, and often may have to exhibit mechanical resistance (e.g. even during regular use on a construction site).

Although there is a number of extension cords available on the market, with varying parameters, often the most convenient solution is to develop your own cabling – with the right length and parameters. When deciding to build such an extension cord, it is worth taking a look at the product range of a Polish brand, Plastrol, who provides numerous electrical components and accessories. These include the Extrem X3 series of 3-way power sockets.

In the TME catalogue, the Extrem X3 connectors are available in four colour variants, all models being designed in the same way. The products are made of high-quality plastic and feature three sockets with a maximum load of up to 3680W (at 250V AC) . The body has a handle for hanging the splitter, a cable gland to secure the cable in place and a grooved surface for firm grip even when using work gloves. What's more, the sockets are fitted with hermetic flaps to protect the contacts of unused connectors against dirt.

The cable is assembled with a screwdriver; after opening the housing, the conductors must be connected, according to their markings, to the screw terminal (including the protective PE conductor, i.e. the so-called ground), which supplies current to all sockets of the splitter. It is worth mentioning here that after assembling and re-fitting the covers, the socket is IP54 rated, i.e. highly dust- and splash-proof – such parameters are perfectly suited to the needs of field, renovation and construction work.
