Sensirion sensors made using CMOSens® technology are designed to ensure high precision of measurement and ease of use while maintaining the minimum dimensions of the housing. They include the STS31A temperature sensor.
The DFN8 package includes, among others, a thermal sensor, systems for software calibration and reading linearization, A/C converter, and a digital interface controller. Thanks to its compact and complex design, the sensor has a wide supply voltage range (from 2.4 V to 5.5 V DC) and very low power consumption (1.7µA for one second intervals). Also noteworthy is the Sensirion serial interface controller I2C, which supports clock signals up to 1MHz.
The sensor is characterised by high precision (±0,3°C) over a wide temperature range. For the STS31A model, this accuracy is maintained at temperatures from -40°C to 90°C (the full measurement range from -40°C to 125°C). The sensor has a built-in memory, where the information on calibration and linearity of the sensor used is pre-stored - thanks to this, the measurements do not require further processing. An interesting functionality of the system is programmable alarm threshold - when exceeded, the ALERT pin of the sensor switches high. The STS31A can therefore operate independently and connect to the interrupt pin of a microcontroller when the operation of the device requires it.
Combined with energy efficiency and suitability for SMD (surface mount) mass production, these features make Sensirion products the ideal choice for IoT and other battery-powered mobile devices. The STS31A sensor will also be used in controllers of production processes and elements of HVAC systems. In addition, it is an AEC-Q100 qualified product for automotive applications.
