One of the tasks that designers often face is choosing the appropriate power supply for the circuit. A number of requirements, sometimes contradictory and therefore calling for compromise, must be taken into account. The circuit should accept a wide range of supply voltages, maintain the output voltage despite changing load conditions, and at the same time the size of the power supply and energy losses should be limited. That is why designers often turn to solutions from the Power Management IC (PMIC) segment, i.e. specialist ICs with multiple integrated functions, designed for building optimised and efficient DC/DC voltage conversion modules.

The TME offer includes a selection of popular PMICs from the LM2575 (up to 1 A max. current) and LM2576 (up to 3 A max. current) families by Taejin Technology. These circuits are designed for buck (step-down) converters, i.e. where the output voltage is lower than the input voltage, which in this case can reach up to 60 V DC. With them, you can reduce the final cost of many projects, both by minimising the number of components and the limited (compared to linear regulators) heating of the components.

The components operate at a fixed conversion frequency of 52 kHz, with a stable, linear output voltage of ±4%. The circuits are characterised by high efficiency (significantly reduced energy loss) and are fitted with overtemperature and overcurrent protection. If needed, they can be switched to a stand-by mode, i.e. low power consumption mode. This facilitates the construction of battery-powered circuits, where the main load is connected periodically. All of these functionalities are available with the use of a single LM257xx circuit and just a few external components ‒ which illustrates well how an efficient PMIC utilises the space on a PCB.

PMICs by Taejin Technology stand as a competitive alternative to solutions from many global manufacturers, whose delivery times are longer. From the manufacturer's range, circuits are available in variants with adjustable or fixed output voltage, in standard housings for surface (SMD) or through-hole (THT) mounting.
