From the practical point of view, digital electronics is based on circuits where the inputs and outputs assume one of two (binary) stable states, corresponding to logical '1' or '0'. These are most often represented by the voltages that are easiest to obtain in a given design, so that the high state reaches approximately the value of the supply voltage (usually 3.3 V or 5 V DC), while the low state corresponds to 'ground', i.e. a potential difference close to 0 V. Level translators
